Lisa Nelms’ explanation as to why she entered the AY Ultimate Beauty Makeover Contest strikes a nerve with just about everyone. When our team of experts met to review the top 20 entries, her authenticity and that she would be dedicated to the entire process became evident. 

“My smile, which I felt was my best asset, was diminished due to menopausal bone loss. I had an accident in 2010 during which I broke my femur and the resulting lack of exercise was evident. All the years of sun worship resulted in brown spots and wrinkles. And worst, years of smoking cigarettes were clearly reflected. So, I took the requested photographs — a close-up of my face and a full-body shot, wrote my entry and sent it off with a prayer,” Nelms said. “When I was contacted and informed that I’d won, I kept pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, a few days later, my makeover adventure began.”

Dr. English performed several procedures to renew Nelms’ face, including CO2 fractional laser skin resurfacing to her face, neck and décolletage; blepheroplasty for her eyes; liposuction on her neck and jowls; a lower facelift as well as brow and mid-face lifts. She also received Botox and Restylane injections. “Dr. English and his staff were professional and caring throughout this entire process,” Nelms said.

Dr. Garner is nationally known for achieving maximum results with minimal procedures, and Nelms was no exception. “My smile makeover took only two visits and about five hours. The process was easy and virtually painless,” Nelms said. Garner artistically placed individual handmade porcelain veneers for her upper smile line and replaced her missing lower, front teeth placing very strong, yet beautiful permanent metal-free restorations to yield a gorgeous smile.

Dr. Yee sculpted Nelms’ body using Vaser Lipo, an alternative to traditional liposuction, in her upper and lower abdomen, waist and hips to create a trim abdomen and hourglass figure. Afterward, Yee used laser ultrasound to help with Lisa’s recovery process. 

“I now have a flattering tummy, my curvy shape back and I’ve lost inches in my waistline,” Nelms said.

The Barbara Graves Intimate Fashions staff often works with Dr. Yee to showcase Yee’s body sculpting results. So naturally, they were there to outfit Nelms with garments to help her recovery and afterward to outfit her with garments that show off her new figure and new attitude. The owner of one of Graves’ designer lines, Neon Buddha, heard about the contest and gave Nelms two outfits!

Nelms’ family and coworkers were a great support during this process, which required  some recovery time. She works for a high-end, national cosmetic company, and her clients most appreciate her makeover. “Some of my clients only come in every two months or so. They’ve been blown away; they’ve said things like, ‘You look like you, but better. What did you do?’ They’ve been so excited — they want to enter next year’s contest.”

“Now when I look in the mirror, the woman I see reflects how I feel inside. Before my personality and how I projected myself didn’t match my exterior. I just feel blessed. Each time I look in the mirror, I see ‘me’ and that makes me smile.”
