Next stop — The Family Room.
Unify your space. A room-sized rug will unite several seat groupings in a large room for a cohesive design. For something more cost-effective, try using bound carpeting instead of a rug.
Some homes have large entries. If you’re lucky enough to have a sizeable entrance, why not add seating? The entry I designed in the photo at left acts as an extension of the home’s living spaces.
Multiply your space. Multiple seating areas are a great way to entertain friends and family. It’s always nice when everyone can be in the same room, yet be comfortable in different areas.
Layer your lighting. Use a mixture of overhead, task and ambient lighting in your home to allow for a variety of activities.
Organize with style. When selecting furniture, it is great to select a piece that is both functional and beautiful. The buffet pictured is a handsome piece to anchor the room, and it stores china that can be accessed from the dining room as well!
Soften your palette. Choose a soft paint color to add longevity to your design scheme. Use more trendy colors in accessories and pillows that you can change with ease and without a lot of time and expense.
