First stop — The Entry.
Make a good first impression! The entry sets the tone for the rest of your house.
Some homes have large entries. If you’re lucky enough to have a sizeable entrance, why not add seating? The entry I designed in the photo at left acts as an extension of the home’s living spaces.
Fresh flowers will delight your guests as soon as they walk through the door.
Invest in a quality lighting fixture. Lantern-style hanging fixtures are very popular now.
Durable flooring, such as stone, will hold up to heavy traffic and last a lifetime. By laying your tile with a pattern, you avoid the need for a large area rug.
When designing a new home, don’t forget to include a coat closet — it’s a must-have!
Add trendy items in small doses — when they’re no longer instyle, they’re easily replaced. I’m especially fond of malachite right now (see the box in the photo).
