Set the tone. It’s important to let your guests know what to expect. Begin with the invitation, be it a calligraphy note or a colorful E-vite. This will give them cues on how to dress and the feel of the occasion. Then, make sure you carry this same look through to the décor and even to the music you play.
Create defined areas. Designate areas for dining and lounging, just as you would inside your home. It can also be a good idea to separate your drink or bar area from the food, to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

Work with your landscape. Your home’s landscape can play a huge role in the décor for an outdoor gathering. Plant additional containers for color, or pick fresh flowers from your yard, place them in vases and scatter them around to add natural color.

Consider comfort. Make sure you have plenty of seating for your guests, including comfortable lounge chairs. Be sure to position some seating in the shade to keep guests cool.
Hospitality is king. Greet your guests with refreshments; make sure to keep everything well-stocked throughout the party … and let the good times roll!
