Tobi's Tips: Fresh-Squeezed Color
photograph by Nancy Nolan
As Halloween approaches, we begin to see orange everywhere … but don’t think this energetic color is only for Halloween or the fall season. This vibrant color is a winner throughout the year!
Here are my tips for pulling off an orange color scheme:
Mix it up! You don’t have to use just one shade of orange in your room. Use multiple variations of the color to accomplish a layered look.
Paint existing furniture pieces to enliven your color scheme. The bench pictured was originally brown, but a new lacquered finish creates a focal point.
Experiment with fabric scales. Here I’ve used fabrics with varying print sizes to keep the room visually balanced. A mixture of pattern sizes is key for a successful fabric story.
Functional flooring tiles make this room kid- and pet-friendly. The individual tiles can be replaced if staining occurs! Here I’ve paired orange with a soft yellow and brown.
Patterned drapery is a great place to introduce graphic appeal to any room.
Be brave! Search the Internet for more inspiration rooms using the color orange. You can always start small in your own room by integrating a few orange accessories. In time, I’m sure you will absolutely love living with color!
