NEXT STOP — Master Bedroom.
In today’s world of busy schedules and constant contact, it’s important to have a space that’s dedicated to rest and relaxation. For many people, the master bedroom is just the place for this retreat. Calming colors, soft fabrics and useful amenities are just a few of the elements that come together to create a dreamy space like the one shown here.
Make Peace. A cool and calm color palette can set the tone for a room that will relax your senses as soon as you enter. Soft blues and greens coordinate with neutrals to create a scene that’s reminiscent of nature — whether it’s a day at the beach or a mountain sky on a spring morning.
Create Comfort. Just because you’re relaxed that doesn’t mean you can skimp on comfort! Choose quality bed linens with a high-thread count to create a bed you won’t want to get out of come morning. If you have hardwood flooring, consider placing a soft rug near the bed for comfort underfoot as well.
Control the Light. Proper lighting is not only important in rooms like the kitchen and bath; it can make all the difference in a good night’s sleep. If you sleep near a window that gets morning sun or has a street lamp that’s illuminated at night, consider a shade or heavy backing for your drapery panels to keep light out. Also, make sure to have proper bedside lighting for nighttime reading.
Take a Seat. If space allows, add a chair or a small sofa to create a sitting area. You can use the space to unwind before bed or to sip your coffee in the morning. A bench can also be a great addition and provides a place to slip on your shoes.
Stop and Listen. Music has a calming effect for many people, whether it’s a classical piece or a favorite artist. Installing a whole-home audio system can help you gain a feeling of relaxation in your bedroom, or any other room of your house for that matter.
