Interstate 30, between Bryant and Benton, Ark., is littered with some of the most unique antique stores — just pick an exit, and cruise the access road to spend your afternoon antiquing.
One of our favorites is Blue Suede Shoes Antique Mall, located between exits 121 and 123 in Bryant. This mall, started seven years ago by owners Brenda Lee and Jim Willbern, is 32,000 square feet of a variety of antiques ranging from English and European furniture to vintage clothing, records, sports memorabilia, and kitchen and home décor. The mall carries the wares of 250 dealers set up in spacious booths. “All of our booths are 10 feet wide, and our store is clean and well-lit,” Willbern said.
Another attraction to the store is the homemade miniature circus attraction. “This circus is really interesting. It is just something fun to look at, and children love it. There are more than 1,000 pieces that are all handmade. The owner started working on it in 1945; he is now 75 years old.”
Blue Suede Shoes is open seven days a week; and on Memorial Day, Labor Day and the Fourth of July, they show their customer appreciation by having storewide sales and grilling hot dogs in the parking lot. Blue Suede Shoes Antique Mall, (501) 653-2777.
Amid the hustle and bustle of Arkansas’ capital city you can find the urban antique shoppers’ haven, Mid-Towne Antique Mall, at the corner of Rodney Parham and Markham. This 20,000 square-foot mall has been around for six years and carries items from approximately 300 dealers. Find anything from antique and new furniture, to home décor, glassware, china and collectables. “Our motto is if you want it, we probably have it,” said Mary Kay Clark Limberg, manager.
