In these times of bailouts, layoffs and unemployment rates, it seems fishing is regaining its spot as one of our country’s favorite pastimes — and a cheap one at that. From one end of the country to the other, angling is on the rise. This recessionary trend isn’t something new. In the last recession from 2000 to 2001, spending on fishing rods and reels increased 12 percent to $343 million, according to the National Sporting Goods Association, which monitors sporting goods revenue.
