Patient: “You are so lucky you are young and don’t have to worry about any of this stuff!”
Me: “Oh, girl, if you only knew! I do Botox every three months, fillers at least once a year, a chemical peel here and there, and maintain a religious skin care routine.”
I have conversations like this every day with my patients. They’re shocked that I’m 32 and already doing things like Botox and filler – and have been doing them for years. But I have learned that it is much easier to prevent aging than it is to try to correct it years down the road.
We prevent diseases by maintaining a healthy diet, exercising and seeing our primary care physician for preventative check-ups. We don’t wait until we start seeing the signs and symptoms to start our healthy habits. The same is true for aging gracefully!
Waiting until you develop deep lines and wrinkles or a face full of sunspots will require more syringes of filler, higher amounts of Botox or Dysport, and more aggressive laser treatments to correct and reverse the damage that has been done to your skin. A little bit of maintenance will go a long way.
I think Diane Von Furstenberg says it best:
“Aging is out of your control. How you handle it, though, is in your hands.”
