The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) congratulates the Arkansas Archeological Survey and Shiloh Museum of Ozark History for receiving an Award of Excellence for Native American Days Program and Resource. The Award of Excellence is part of the AASLH Leadership in History Awards, the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation of state and local history.

The Native American Days Program and Resource is a 2 day, virtual program featuring short presentations by Native American artists, archeologists, and historical interpreters aligned to 5th grade educational standards as well as a website with additional background information and links. The program was available live to anyone or any classroom who had pre-registered, and the website continues to be a recorded resource for teachers to use until next years’ program. Pre-registered participants also received a box of supplies for students for a hands-on component for some of the presentations.

This year, AASLH is proud to confer 53 national awards honoring people, projects, exhibits, and publications. The winners represent the best in the field and provide leadership for the future of state and local history.

The AASLH awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards not only honor significant achievement in the field of state and local history, but also bring public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions, and programs to make contributions in this arena.
