The 84th Annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony at the Arkansas State Capitol will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

 

Rex Nelson, senior editor for the Arkansas Democrat Gazette and author of three books, will emcee the event. There will be a performance by Miss Metro’s Outstanding Teen Bella Crow, the Catholic High Jr. ROTC, Santa Claus and more.

 

Following the ceremony and fireworks show, you can go inside the Capitol to view all the Christmas decorations, such as the Fallen Heroes Holiday Tree that volunteers helped set up.

Inside the Capitol building, you will also be able to visit Santa in his workshop and shop in the Capitol Gift Shop. The 2022 Capitol Christmas Ornament will be available for purchase.

The lighting ceremony also kicks off the beginning of the Capitol’s extended hours for the holiday season. The State Capitol will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The extended hours will remain in effect until Jan. 2. It will be closed on Christmas Day.

 

The Arkansas State Capitol Christmas Lighting Ceremony is a family-friendly event that is open to the public.
