As Arkansas crosses its fingers for a sunny blue weekend in The Natural State, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is reminding citizens that June 12-14 is Free Fishing Weekend.

While the annual Kids’ Fishing Day, which typically takes place on Saturday, is cancelled, the Free Fishing Days still will begin at noon on Friday and last until midnight on Sunday. During this time, any rod-and-line fishermen will not need a license or permit to fish anywhere in Arkansas.

“Fishing is a major contributor to Arkansas’ tourism economy,” Travis Napper, director of Arkansas Tourism, said in a statement. “Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Free Fishing Weekend encourages Arkansas to get out and explore the Natural State and its many outdoor recreation opportunities, dining options, lodging properties and attractions.”

In the state of Arkansas, there is more than 600,000 acres of lakes and 96,000 miles of streams. Within these, the Arkansas State Parks offer access to fishing in 12 rivers and 29 lakes across the state – plenty of room for everyone this weekend!
