Gov. Asa Hutchinson has proclaimed the month of November as Arkansas Soybean Month — a time to celebrate and recognize a large part of Arkansas’ economy.
“Our number one row crop is soybean. When agriculture is our number one industry in Arkansas and soybean is the largest part of that, it deserves a month of recognition and expression of appreciation to the farmers that contribute to our way of life and to our economy,” Hutchinson says.
Soybeans are a $2 billion industry in Arkansas with approximately 3 million acres planted every year. More than 50 percent of crops are exported, leaving Arkansas consistently ranked in the top 10 soybean-producing states.
The Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board — celebrating its 50th anniversary — has planned activities to celebrate the month-long holiday. Those interested are encouraged to follow the organization on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
