One of the most iconic events in Arkansas is reinventing itself for its 2020 edition.

The Arkansas State Fair is beloved throughout the state, attracting untold numbers each year. But COVID-19 but a damper in the plans for this year’s fest. Fair officials canceled most of the 2020 event but will be holding a handful of events.

This year, the Arkansas State Fair will be holding its annual Junior Livestock Show and the State Fair Pageant and Talent competitions.

“I think it is safe to say that the 2020 State Fair is the most unique in the event’s long history,” Arkansas State Fair president Doug White said in a statement. “Despite the unconventional nature of this year’s Arkansas State Fair, we are very pleased to host the Junior Livestock Show, State Fair Pageant and Talent competitions and their participants.”

In total, $120,000 is at stake for the pageant and talent competition winners.

According to fair officials, the general public will not be allowed at the fair, but the events will be broadcast on Facebook Live. Participants’ family members will also be limited, with masks and social distancing required for all individuals present.

The fun starts on Wednesday, Oct. 14 and runs through Oct. 24 at Little Rock’s State Fairgrounds.
