AY Media Group President and Publisher Heather Baker Inducted into Prestigious Circle of Red for the American Heart Association
AY Media Group’s President and Publisher, Heather Baker, has been inducted into the prestigious Circle of Red, which is a diverse group of individuals who have joined the Go Red for Women movement as part of the American Heart Association.
This organization selects some of the most important leaders in the community to help improve heart health in the world around then. This Circle of Red group works together to drive and influence change, and to improve the lives and heart health of women and their communities as part of the American Heart Association’s initiative. This platform is focused on women and is designed to increase awareness of women’s heart health while encouraging change to improve women’s lives. The Circle of Red organization doesn’t just start conversations, but also advocates for and funds new research.
Baker is excited for the opportunity to use her platforms and publications to educate her community about the importance of heart health and heart awareness through her work with Circle of Red.
Heart Disease is the number one killer of women. Seventeen years ago, this was a little-known fact, but through the founding, advocacy and fundraising efforts of Go Red for Women, awareness is more widespread than ever before, and research is reaching new heights.
Baker acknowledges her own struggles that she has had with heart health.
“You always think ‘It can’t happen to me’. I live a healthy lifestyle, eat well, and go to the gym. But over the past year, the stress of the pandemic and work has led to some heart health concerns in my own life,” Baker shares.
Consultations and visits with Baker’s doctor, Monica Lo, who works at the Arkansas Heart Hospital, made Baker even more passionate about educating the community and her readers about heart health and heart health awareness.
“It wasn’t until it started happening to me that I realized the importance of knowing the signs before something happens.”
Contrary to popular belief, survivors of heart disease come from all backgrounds and ages. One particular honoree at this year’s Circle of Red luncheon is as young as 4 years old.
“It is so incredibly important to know the signs that something is wrong, to get it addressed, and to do what’s best for your heart even when things are well. Check in on family members and loved ones, and remind them how important it is to be in tune with themselves,” Baker said. “I feel like I’m a caretaker, and I’m always looking out for those around me. But in order to care for others, you have to care for yourself first.”
