A margarita and cheese dip make any night better.  And if you’re in the Heights, you have to stop by Baja Grill at the corner of Kavanaugh Blvd. and N. University Ave.
A neighborhood hangout for sure, but it’s a great place to cross town to try.  The folks behind Baja Grill were once in the food truck business but ventured out to a free-standing restaurant in a bustling part of town in 2014. They serve what they call Mexi-Cali food.

The burritos and quesadillas are favorites but I think you need to stop what you’re doing and jot down “order the sangrita or daq in a box” when you go.  Daq in a box is really good daiquiri. Heather, the manager, insisted I try both, and being a good sport, I drank them both. They were amazing. Then with cheese dip and chips, and my Tuesday night was the best ever. Baja Grill’s delicious sangrita

You might remember the restaurant because this is the place where, this summer, the servers and owner pitched in and bought a car for one of their own who walked to work every day or hitched a ride.  That was honestly the main reason I went. And I was hungry. And thirsty. And it was a Tuesday.
If you’re a fan, what is it you like about Baja Grill? The cool outdoor dining? The quaint atmosphere inside? The nice folks who work there? I love neighborhood haunts, and I can see why people in the Heights would make this a preferred spot.
