Ballet Arkansas has announced the return of The Nutcracker Spectacular as well as a world premiere of The Nutty Nutcracker to Robinson Performance Hall Dec. 9-12.
“After celebrating the Magic of the Nutcracker in new and innovative ways in 2020 with a nationally celebrated Nutcracker parade and digital Nutcracker Spectacular broadcast, Ballet Arkansas is looking forward to returning to the beautiful Robinson Center to celebrate the season with live performances once again,” says Catherine Fothergill, Associate Artistic Director.
The Nutcracker Spectacular is Arkansas’ largest and longest-running holiday production, reaching more than 10,000 in a weekend and becoming a holiday tradition for over 42 years. This year’s production will feature 14 professional dancers alongside a community cast of more than 200 children and adults. Live music will be featured by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Geoffry Robson and will feature Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s score.
Public performances of The Nutcracker Spectacular will take place the following dates and times:
- Friday, Dec. 10: 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, Dec. 11: 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, Dec. 12: 2:00 p.m.
Student discounted matinee performances of The Nutcracker Spectacular will take place at 10:30 a.m. on both Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 for school-aged children and educators. Student matinee performance details are available here.
For a comedic take on the Nutcracker, Ballet Arkansas is premiering The Nutty Nutcracker, an all-age appropriate performance. “The Nutty Nutcracker is the perfect production for anyone who needs the joy of laughter and light-hearted fun, or for families who would like to try something new this holiday season,” Fothergill says.
The two public performances of The Nutty Nutcracker will be held on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
