Banker Behind the Bank
President and Chief Lending Officer, Stone Bank
As a teenager, Nick Roach was working in a grocery store when one of his long-time customers inquired about his interest in a career in banking. She was a branch manager at a local bank and set up an interview when he said he wanted to explore it.
“I have always loved numbers and people. Banking combines them in a unique way where I can use numbers to help my clients achieve their goals,” Roach says. “I started the month after I graduated high school, and have been hooked ever since.”
While working in banking, Roach majored in economics and finance at Arkansas Tech University and enjoyed more than 20 years in the industry. In 2010, he was hired as Stone Bank’s chief lending officer.
“Each business or person has a unique need or desire, and to be able to assess the proper solution to satisfy that need or desire is quite fulfilling,” he says.
“Getting to watch our clients and their businesses grow and know that we have helped contribute to their success is very rewarding.”
Roach says community banks are integral to their towns and the nation’s economy.
“The difference is larger non-community banks serve shareholders, and community banks serve communities,” he says. “Community banks are vital to the success of communities and small business in America. After the recession of 2008, community banks have lent more money to the small businesses in America than non-community banks. That is astounding when you think about the difference in size of community banks compared to non-community banks.”
“But, the most significant difference, I believe, is the way we deal with our customers. We take the time to get to know their needs and help to develop a workable solution tailored to you.”
