Summer is right on the horizon, and that means lazy afternoons and nights are ahead, allowing you to kick back a little. You can grab a brew and catch up with friends, especially now that pandemic restrictions are loosening up.

If you need a place to find some delicious bar food and beer, then you’ve come to the right place. This month, AY President and Publisher Heather Baker and KARK host Hilary Hunt will be on the lookout for the top spots to grab some beer and food. As always, they’ll have some help from the trusty AY Bucket List.

For the first stop on the Beer and Bar Food Bucket List tour, there was one logical joint. That’s Lost Forty Brewing.

This Little Rock institution brews some of the best microbrews around and has some tasty snacks to go along with it. Just ask Baker and Hunt – they are sipping and snacking at the brewery.

Lost Forty is a long-time favorite for both Baker and Hunt, but the spot has some new things to offer. “They’ve got a whole new menu, so Heather, we should go dive into it,” Hunt says.

To start, Baker and Hunt try out a bar food staple.

“Alright, Hilary, what says ‘bar food’ more than wings?,” Baker says. “I have the typical buffalo wings. Of course, saturated in ranch because I love dipping sauces.”

Meanwhile, Hunt is going a different route, trying out some new vegan offerings, with flavors like buffalo, BBQ and Reaper. “I totally love the new menu,” she says.

When they are done with the wings, it’s time to move onto bigger matters. Hunt wants something lighter, opting for a salad with salmon and ranch dressing. “Call me a loser, but I love salad,” Hunt says.

Baker goes for the Smoked Jalapeno Pimento Cheese, which is pimento cheese that has been made with house-smoked jalapenos and is served with lavash cracker bread, celery and spicy Calabrian pickled peppers. “It’s light, it’s refreshing, it’s got a little bit of heat on it, and you can wash down with some seltzer,” Baker says.

In addition to the pimento cheese, Baker also lavishes praise on Lost Forty’s wood-grilled pizza. But Hunt says one of her favorite is Lost Forty’s gold-fried chicken sandwich, which has a fried chicken breast, deviled mayo and dill pickles on a Boulevard Bread Company bun.

Of course, you can have a bar food segment without some drinks. Baker and Hunt put Lost Forty’s PUNCHY Arkansas Hard Seltzer to the test. Unsurprisingly, it passes with flying colors!

There’s more to come on the Beer and Bar Food Bucket List. Over the next three weeks, AY will bring you the best in food and drink around Central Arkansas.

Tune in next week to find out where Heather and Hilary head next.
