World Cheese Dip Championship

The World Cheese Dip Championship is holding its first ever kick-off event next Thursday, July 16. And you do not even have to leave your home to enjoy it.

I caught up with Anna Morshedi, the former Volunteer Chair of the WCDC, to learn more about Summer Dip.

Could you tell us a little bit about Summer Dip and how it’s involved with the World Cheese Dip Championship?

The Summer Dip fundraiser is a unique opportunity to taste the reigning World Cheese Dip Championship dip while also supporting the amazing work of Harmony Health Clinic. All ticket purchases and donations support the clinic’s mission to provide health and dental care to the medically underserved and uninsured in Pulaski County. During a major health crisis, access to care for our most vulnerable is something we should all support. We’re kicking off the 10th Annual World Cheese Dip Championship season with Chef Tyler Husser’s award-winning cheese dip delivered directly to your door! Dip, sip, and tune in to a live Zoom cooking demonstration from Chef Tyler Husser and learn the secrets behind his prize recipe.

Is this the first time you are doing a summer event affiliated with the fall World Cheese Dip Championship?

This is the first time we’ve had a kick-off event. This is the 10th year of the championship, so we wanted to do something special. Event attendees are always asking how they can get their chips on the winning dip, and now here’s their chance.

What is the cost of a ticket and what does that get you?

Tickets cost $150 and can be purchased on the Harmony Health Clinic website. After your donation is made, the Zoom meeting ID and password will be emailed along with your donation receipt. The Summer Dip Package includes: Chef Tyler’s award-winning cheese dip (8 oz.), his secret recipe, On the Border tortilla chips, and 2 adult beverages. You must live in Little Rock Metro area for delivery and you must be at least 21 years old to receive adult beverages.

Could you tell us a little bit about Chef Tyler Husser? Is he a past winner of the WCDC?

Chef Tyler Husser has been part of the Central Arkansas food scene for almost 20 years. He’s currently the Food Service Director at Acxiom. Last year, Chef Tyler’s “Queso the Monday’s” dip won both the Judges’ Professional Team Award and the People’s Choice Professional Team Award. He took home those same titles in 2016 and has entered his cheesy concoctions four times. Most importantly, he has a big heart and uses his culinary skills to support his community.

Finally, I have to ask, is there any word on this year’s World Cheese Dip Championship in October? Will it happen, and if not, could you see something virtual like this summer event?

Our planning committee is continuing to evaluate event strategies that could allow for social distancing guidelines. It’s our hope to have an in-person festival, but the safety of our attendees is our top priority. Whatever decision is made, we will continue to find ways to celebrate cheese. The Summer Dip concept is safe way to enjoy Arkansas’s liquid gold and might be the wave of the future.
