Doe’s Eat Place, the iconic restaurant on the edge of downtown Little Rock, has officially reopened for dine-in business under the Phase I guidelines established for Arkansas restaurants. The entire menu is available and that includes the customer favorite three-pound Porterhouse with fries, soaked salad, new potatoes and Texas toast.
Folks who decide to dine-in will also notice a few changes to the restaurant. For starters, all the interior walls have been bleached and repainted (courtesy of Doe’s employees), giving the restaurant an overall fresher look. Floors, inside and out, have been power washed. There is also a new roof. The front window in the side dining room was replaced and there is new outdoor landscaping around the patio area. On a smaller scale, sanitation stations are now set up throughout the restaurant and a shield is in front of the cashier.
Simply put, the time away has given Doe’s, which has been closed since March 19, an opportunity to make some much needed changes. However, customers should still expect the same downhome charm they have grown to love through the years. Everything else, including the beforementioned menu and hours of operations, will be the same.
“I am trying really hard to get back to as close to normal as I can,” says owner Katherine Eldridge.
Doe’s is taking reservations for parties of six or more and will offer curbside pickup for those not ready to dine-in just yet. The restaurant is asking the curbside customers to call-in their order and then phone the restaurant once again when they arrive. An employee will bring out the food.
For Eldridge, May 26 is a big day for the restaurant.
“I am excited but very nervous about just trying to enforce the guidelines and how customers will react to that. But we are going to enforce them.”
Doe’s familiar security guard will be stationed at the front door, ensuring everyone has on a mask before entering the restaurant.
To celebrate the reopening, Doe’s will be holding gift certificate and t-shirt giveaways throughout the week on social media.
