Dr. Monty Heathman, a born and raised Arkansan, has been providing top-notch oral health care services for 18 years.
In January of 2016, Heathman bought Dr. Gene Jines’ practice – now called Heathman Family Dental – at 12501 Cantrell Road in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he continues to serve patients Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can call 501-223-3838 to make an appointment at the Little Rock location.
“Dr. Jines and I shared the same philosophy regarding patient care and lasting relationships, so that I could maintain the commitment to excellence
in patient care.”
He was already operating two other dental offices at the time of the purchase, which
concerned his wife, Kelli.
“I told her to just take a look. She looked at the view outside of the patient operatories, saw the five-acre pond, island and wildlife and said,
The wildlife around the practice includes squirrels, chipmunks, baby geese, birds, snakes and turtles, he says, and all add to the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.
“Our office is state of the art, so that we can create art. Dentistry is an art and a science.”
Heathman also owns and operates the Dental Clinic at Stuttgart, which is located at 2022 South Buerkle in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
The clinic has office hours from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Call 1-870-551-3836 for more information or to make an appointment.
Heathman and his team utilize digital radiography, X-rays, cutting-edge biomaterials, paperless records and the finest laboratories in the country.
Their mission? “We create beautiful smiles.”
The single most important asset to have, he says, is an exceptional team.
“I have three hygienists with over 40 years of experience who are absolute rock stars! They are an absolute joy to work with. I also have dedicated front office administrators with over 20 years of service. My assistants anticipate my every move, and they are the best I’ve trained,” he explains. “Essentially, my team enables me to work efficiently, and makes my job easy so that I can focus on excellence, and developing relationships with my patients.”
Heathman does not have a staff, so to speak, but a team – and that word choice makes a huge difference. His team refers to – and sees – patients as guests and family.
“Our philosophy is that our patients choose our clinic, and for that, we are grateful. Therefore, it is our charge to serve our patients so that we can take care of their oral healthcare needs.”
Dentistry is all in the family; Heathman began working in his father’s, the late Dr. N. Dwight Heathman’s, practice in 1982 as a high school sophomore in Springdale. Fascinated with the art and science of dentistry, he moved to Dallas, Texas after graduating high school, and worked as a dental assistant for several years. He moved back home and finished up his undergraduate degree at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, then attended The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, where he became a member of the Xi Psi Phi dental fraternity. Heathman received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2000.
After graduation, he rejoined his father in Springdale, then practiced on his own for several years.
“I really enjoy dentistry as a profession, and just as important, I enjoy patients of all ages [that] I serve. My main drive is that the relationships with my patients that I develop are so rewarding that I know dentistry is my calling. I have great satisfaction having the privilege to serve them.”
Heathman truly embraces positive patient-doctor relationships, and finds them incredibly satisfying. “I love taking care of my patients, and delivering a high quality of care in order to maintain or restore their oral healthcare needs, whether [I do that through] routine cleanings, comprehensive rehabilitation, or cosmetic makeovers. I offer expanded services so my patients don’t have to see specialists very often. My training and expertise allow us to deliver most disciplines of dentistry in our clinic.”
Heathman is especially interested in cosmetic, implantology, surgery and full-mouth rehabilitation, procedures that can change his patients’ lives for the better.
Heathman’s patients are just like family members to him, and he takes care to always listen to what they have to say. Over the years, he has learned that listening is an invaluable tool to develop trust and understanding. “By listening, I can identify their cares and concerns so that I can deliver the best dentistry possible, and meet their goals and expectations. It is infinitely rewarding to see several generations of families.”
Heathman’s love for Little Rock runs deep, and it is also the city where he met his wife. “I tell my family, friends, and patients that Little Rock is a great, small, big city. It is a hidden gem. Little Rock has all the amenities of the big city, and I can be in the country or Wal-Mart within ten minutes. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.”
Heathman and his team believe in always increasing their give, and giving back to the community when possible. The clinic donates a percentage of patient fees to various foundations that support the community. They contribute to causes such as the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), homeless shelters, local schools and the Arkansas Akita Rescue Foundation. The clinic also donates lunches to children in need.
Some of Heathman’s hobbies include deep-sea fishing, spending time with his wife and son, and anything related to dogs, as one might be able to guess from his clinic’s choice of charities. The family has three Akitas and one labrador, and they’re all rescue animals.
Heathman’s short-term goal is to expand his existing clinics in order to accommodate growth. But his goals don’t stop there; in the long term, he wants to grow and establish new clinics so he can mentor young clinicians, much like his father did for him, in order to develop and provide the highest standard of care possible. This will improve the dental world as a whole.
“New doctors need mentorship. I would also like to be part of the development of a potential dental school in Arkansas, and its growth.” In this way, Heathman and his team can keep giving back to the community, beyond what they do day-to-day, and support the state that they love.
In addition to being named one of AY’s Best in Family Dentistry in 2017 and 2018, Heathman has been recognized as one of America’s Top Dentists. He was named a Leading Physician of the World and Top Dentist in Little Rock in 2014. He is also a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Arkansas State Dental Association and the Central District Dental Society.
