The wait for a new Evanescence album may be coming to an end.
Amy Lee, the band’s frontwoman, told SiriusXM that the band expects to release a new album in 2020. In the past year, she says the band has been developing materials and writing songs. In the meantime, they have been touring and playing festivals.
“This is sort of a creation year for us,” Lee says. “We’re playing a few festivals and some headlining shows — a little bit, but not too heavy.
This will be the band’s first completely original album since the release of their self-titled album in 2011. That album was commercially successful, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and selling 127,000 copies in its first week. In addition, it topped iTunes’ Digital Albums, Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums and Hard Rock Albums categories in the U.S.
However, the band released Synthesis in 2017, which featured reworked versions of some of Evanescence’s most popular songs. Many of the versions were stripped down or featured orchestral arrangements.
Founded in Little Rock by Lee and Ben Moody, the band developed a following around Central Arkansas. Evanescence exploded onto the music scene with the album Fallen and the hit sound “Bring Me to Life.”
