The Face Of Family Practice
Little Rock Family Practice Clinic
At Little Rock Family Practice, the needs of the patient come first. Each week, our physicians meet to discuss our practice and its needs, ensuring that communication and quality are continually held as priorities for the practice. Beyond this, we offer full-service care. We work to ensure that whenever possible our patients do not have to be referred to other facilities for further testing unless necessary. The availability of on-site labs, X-rays, and bone density studies at both locations allows patients to receive their results, diagnoses and treatments in a very timely manner – often same day.
Another way our practice integrates the principle of comprehensive care is by offering our patients access to a clinical pharmacist, nutritionist, diabetic education program and care coordinators – members of our team that are available to patients to help with navigating their acute and/or chronic health concerns, and who can assist in scheduling follow-up visits and with monitoring longer term health/medical needs.
We believe wellness is about helping our patients assess and manage their individual health needs and goals, which includes working to prevent issues from developing. Annual wellness exams provide physicians with necessary information to assist patients in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We work with our patients to try proactively to prevent chronic health conditions, and implement early treatment when conditions develop.
Our roots run deep in central Arkansas. In 1963, Dr. Harold Hedges and Dr. Jim Flack opened Little Rock Family Practice on N. University Avenue, following their return from service as U.S. Navy flight surgeons. In the beginning, one employee managed to serve in every role they needed: receptionist, nurse, typist/transcriptionist and lab technician. The doctors’ wives periodically had to fill in when needed. After two years, Dr. William Wade became the third physician and the group moved into a larger office. In 1970, Dr. Robert McGowan joined the team. Today, we have 13 physicians, one nurse practitioner and over 70 staff members.
Steadfast in our founding principles, our team at Little Rock Family Practice blends personal care with technology to ensure every patient receives the best treatment for their chronic and acute care needs.
