Jazz will be filling the air this spring in Fayetteville.
The third annual Fayetteville Jazz Festival has been set for April 23-25 with multiple events hosted by the University of Arkansas Community Music School, the Institute for creative Music and the Fayetteville Public Library. Organized by Music Moves, the festival is free to the public and will feature outdoor performances and live streaming events.
Several notable jazz musicians will be performing during the festival, including saxophonist Alexa Tarantino, who has performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and Arkansas favorite Rodney Block. The festival will also feature vocalist Carmen Bruner, organist Jeremey Thomas, pianist Reggie James, drummer Anthony Ball, guitarist Jake Hertzog and more.
There will be outdoor performances at Prairie Street Live and live streamed events through the Fayetteville Public Library. But it’s not just musical performances. There are also panel discussions, school performance clinics, and workshops on jazz history, theory and improvisation planned. University of Arkansas musicologist Kimberly Hannon Teal, Jeffrey Murdock, music theorist Joon Park and others will be lending their expertise during these fun events.
Local students will be able to learn more from the experts with performances clinics with Alexa Tarantino and others. These remote clinics will take place remotely in the two weeks leading up to the festival.
