The longest-running animated children’s show, Arthur, will be laid to rest at the end of February after 25 years in production, with the first episode airing in 1996.
Ninety’s babies are welcome to grieve as the four-part series finale is set to air on Feb. 21. The 25th-anniversary marathon will air on PBS Kids and live stream on the PBS Kids Youtube channel from Feb. 16 to Feb 21.
Although it is an end to one era, PBS has announced that the characters will live on through podcasts, digital shorts and interactive digital content, with the entire series available for streaming on PBS Kids.
The popular show is based on the children’s book series Arthur Adventure by Marc Brown, and tells the story of aardvarks residing in Elwood City. The show won a few Daytime Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a BAFTA. The New York Times marked the show as the most popular show for kids ages 2 to 11 in the early 2000s.
