[dropcap]W[/dropcap]here does Midtown end and west Little Rock begin?
While that question has remained the same for decades, the answer continues to change. Believe it or not, there was once a time when Stifft Station could have been considered “west Little Rock.” For a time, it meant anything west of University.
According to Dana Carney, of Little Rock’s Planning and Development Department, there’s no specific definition. “I imagine most folks have their own idea,” she says.
As the city continues its rapid, westward growth, the border of what is considered west Little Rock will certainly continue to change. Today, the general consensus is that anything past Interstate 430 now falls into that category.
And as west Little Rock continues to expand, more and more business owners are seizing on the opportunity to set up shop in this vibrant, burgeoning community of Arkansas dwellers. There’s truly something for everyone.
In our first-ever edition of AY’s Guide to West Little Rock, we’ll explore some of the many businesses that stretch from I-430 to Roland, making this little borough of the capital city great!
Pleasant Ridge Town Center
The Pleasant Ridge Town Center greets visitors as they make their way into west Little Rock. The premier retail shopping landmark, anchored by a Belk Department Store and a Fresh Market, lends a pedestrian-friendly environment throughout.
The first phase of this beautiful, sprawling shopping district, Pleasant Ridge West, opened in 1998. The town center, as we know it today, was completely in 2006. All told, Pleasant Ridge, owned and operated by Little Rock’s own Lou Schickel, has served the region for upwards of 20 years.
While the center’s management, leasing and grounds maintenance team consists of just five employees, the shopping district has generated hundreds of jobs and created countless opportunities for those in the west Little Rock community.
Many of their local tenants are popular, well-established businesses that have come to Pleasant Ridge from across Little Rock. In all, there are 14 restaurants, 13 services, 10 national retailers and 23 local retailers.
Schickel, who has also operated the popular Schickel’s Cleaners in Little Rock since 1969, can even be found walking through the center, engaging with tenants and visitors, alike. At Pleasant Ridge Town Center, everyone’s family.
One popular business you’ll find in the Pleasant Ridge Town Center made its way there from Jonesboro. The Everyday Chef is an incredible store dedicated to the kitchen and dining experience.

This convenient location makes them a frequent haunt for “everyday chefs” from the Heights, Midtown, Pleasant Valley and Chenal.
The Everyday Chef is the concept of owner, operator and northeast Arkansas native Linda Wofford. It offers anything and everything one could imagine needing for both the kitchen and dining room, including gadgets that make cooking prep work easier. You’ll also find incredible cookware, serving pieces for any occasion, China and every day dinnerware.

Hold on to your veils. Their bridal and gift registry is one area in which The Everyday Chef excels. Their registry is incredibly active, and any couple looking to tie the knot should add this shop to their list and let the friendly staff help select items they will cherish for years to come.
Couples that register with The Everyday Chef can receive a free gift, free delivery to their shower and, as always, free gift wrapping. They also offer 20 percent off of hostess gifts for bridal showers.
“Anyone who cooks is an everyday chef of varying degrees, so our store is designed to be a resource for all,” says Wofford.
