August is a great time to get out and enjoy the Arkansas State Parks in the Arkansas Delta, especially from the water.
Join the staff at Davidsonville Historic State Park in Pocahontas for a Black River Ramble on Aug. 12. Explore the importance of rivers as you float along the Black River from Davidsonville to Powhatan. Participants will stop along the way for lunch and a tour of an old button factory site and then continue along the Black River to Powhatan Historic State Park. Lunch and canoes are included in the $25 fee. To learn more, contact the park at 870-892-4708.
If you’ve ever wanted to explore the natural beauty of the Arkansas Delta, here’s your chance. The Delta Heritage Trail State Park near Helena-West Helena offers a Pedal Paddle Tour on Aug. 19. Participants will travel with a park interpreter on a bicycle down the former route of the Missouri Pacific’s Delta Eagle passenger train, exploring some of the diverse history and nature along the way. After the 10-mile bike ride, you can paddle a kayak on Old Town Lake, a former channel of the Mississippi River. The $25 fee includes bike and kayak rental. To learn more, contact the park at 870-572-2352.
