The quest to try the best fried chicken in Arkansas continues. This week, Heather Baker and Hilary Hunt flew over to SoMa to check out South on Main’s take on the delicious dish.
Don Dugan, owner of South on Main, had hefty portions of fried chicken whipped up for the ladies. But he also had a surprise up his sleeve: champagne. Apparently, champagne and chicken pair well together. Who knew?
“Instead of chicken and waffles we have chicken and ‘champs,'” Baker says.
Right off the bat, both Baker and Hunt are impressed. Both rave over how crispy the fried chicken is, and how jam-packed each bite is with flavor.
And it’s not just the chicken that the duo are downing by the forkload. Served alongside the chicken is macaroni and cheese, baked squash, potatoes and fried green tomatoes — which Hunt is not usually a big fan of, but she couldn’t get enough of South on Main’s take on them.
The gals washed everything down with a couple of cocktails. After all, it is South on Main — what would a visit be without a mixed drink or two?
