It’s the last stop on the Beer and Bar Food Bucket List tour this week. Heather Baker and Hilary Hunt ended the month in style over at YaYa’s Euro Bistro in the Promenade at Chenal.
Both Baker and Hunt are feeling a little bittersweet about the occasion — sad to be wrapping up this iteration of AY‘s Bucket List, but definitely excited to be at YaYa’s.
“This is a great date night spot. I’m pumped,” Hunt says.
“Oh, YaYa’s is all about happy hour. They have the best sangria, the best tapas. It’s all ready for us to eat.” Baker responds.
At that, it’s time to cut the ceremony and get inside to see what’s in store for the two ladies.
Right off the bat, Hunt is impressed by the atmosphere and the libation selection.
“You want to talk about some upscale beer and bar food? One, what I love is they have local drafts — Lost Forty, Flyway, like everything you could want,” Hunt says. “And then all these great appetizers.”
It’s a seafood smorgasbord for starters. Hunt dives into the Shrimp A La Plancha, which is skillet-seared prawns with a baguette, dry sherry and Fresno chili butter. For her plate, Baker has to “pinch” herself to make sure she isn’t dreaming.
“You can’t be crabby ’cause they got crab cakes on the menu. That’s always what I go for, and they are always yummy,” Baker says.
YaYa’s crab cakes star lump crab, roasted garlic aioli, tabbouleh and pickled cauliflower.
Also among the delicious spread of culinary delights for the ladies is the Hummus & Pita dish, which features house-made hummus, grilled pita, feta cheese, kalamata olives and chili oil.
“They have great finger foods. The hummus is divine,” Baker says, before pointing at another of the pair’s favorites. Baker and Hunt carol in unison: “The Chicken Piadini.”
“It’s so good, I mean it’s like a little pizza,” Hunt says of the piadini. “You said finger foods — they’ve got calamari, which everyone loves … they even have bruschetta, which tastes super fresh with the roasted garlic dip.”
And it wouldn’t be a trip to the bar with the girls without showing off a few cocktails. Hunt refreshed herself with the Lemondrop Martini, and Baker was all over YaYa’s Wedding Paloma, made with house-fused tequila.
“If you’re looking for a great place for happy hour and drinks, this is it,” Baker says.
