It’s not a secret that we have some amazing people in this state. I am constantly astounded by the moves people make and where they find themselves and their voices. Two people, Leo Cummings III and Todd Cate, have used their voices to create a platform showing how different beliefs, viewpoints and experiences can all be heard and respected. If you aren’t familiar with these two men, read this story and then immediately go check out their podcast Black Dude White Dude because it has some good stuff.
Cummings and Cate started their podcast back in 2016, and now, almost six years later, the two men have really become an asset to the state. Despite their often opposite viewpoints, the podcast covers the difficult conversations and contrasting beliefs that can sometimes end relationships. While many friends might avoid delving into topics around politics, perspectives from different races and current event debates in fear of overstepping boundaries, Cummings and Cate go into each discussion with a common ground.
“I respect you. I will listen to you. I’ll do my best to understand. I’ll be respectful. We will leave here as friends.”
The men are alike in that they are both fathers, sports fans and normal “dudes” trying to navigate life. However, they are also quite different, making the show a raw and relatable experience for listeners interested in both sides of a story.
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Cummings and Cate this past week as a guest on their podcast. We talked about my story as a woman making it in a man’s world and just about my life in general (car fanatic included). Spending time with the two men, learning about their dynamic and how they share a love for supporting other voices and businesses in the state made me admire them even more for what their podcast accomplishes.
I wholeheartedly believe that to be successful you have to choose each and every day to do something worthwhile, and Cummings and Cate have done just that. They are intentional with the content of every show and exhibit what I wish we could all do. They are individuals with their own beliefs and opinions showing how the world can be more peaceful and loving if we just listen.
Catch me on the Black Dude White Dude podcast here and then binge the other five years’ worth of shows. I promise you’ll come out a better person for it.
