Let me tell you a story: A few weeks ago during that record-setting snow week, I faced many women’s worst nightmare. I am always on the move, staying busy, even when most of Arkansas took a break that week. I was on my way home when I got stuck at the entrance of my neighborhood. My poor little car wasn’t going anywhere on those slick Waterview hills and accumulating ice. I was stranded.
But then, a couple that I had never met before, saw me in my distress and decided to help me. Daniel and Lori Sawran pulled up next to me in their truck and asked if I needed a hand. Daniel went back to their house, got some chains, and came back to pull my car all the way to my house. They didn’t want anything in return – they just saw a person in need and went out of their way to make sure they were taken care of and safe.
We need more people like Daniel and Lori! People who will do a good deed, not for recognition, attention or money, but just because they want to, they’re called to. I am always blown away whenever I see people going out of their way for others. It’s truly a beautiful part of being human.
Good deeds must be done with good intentions, otherwise, what’s the point? If you’re only out putting on a performance for others to applaud you, what do you truly gain in the end? Go forward with the mindset that everything you do for others is for them, not for you.
Simple acts of kindness go such a long way. What may be insignificant to you could be what turns another person’s life around. You never know what battles someone is going through, so just be nice and lend a hand.
William Shakespeare wrote, “How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” Do something today that puts a smile on someone else’s face. Do something today that makes someone else’s day that much better. Do something today for someone without expecting anything in return. Be a beautiful human-being today!
