As much as I enjoy traveling and trying new food spots, I don’t think I will ever find anything I love more than the local restaurants we have in Arkansas. There are too many favorites to count, but you know you’ve found something special when the staff remembers your order. A restaurant I probably frequent too often — if that’s even possible with food this good — is Scallions in the Heights.
Fast food has become so popular because of its low prices, quick service and convenience, but who knows what’s really inside those burgers and how long they’ve been sitting in a freezer? I can’t stress enough that we have plenty of local spots that deliver fast and fresh food that is way more enjoyable than something off the dollar menu. Scallions makes each dish to order, and everything they use is fresh and light.
I have too many favorites on the menu to count, but I would say my top go-to’s would be the stuffed avocado with chicken salad, the seafood bisque and my all-time favorite meal anywhere I go, pimento cheese. The flavors are so refreshing, especially in this excruciating heat we’ve had the last few weeks. To finish it all off, I always order a peach unsweet tea. The restaurant serves everything from finger sandwiches to poppy seed muffins, and whatever you order, just know you’re going to get a hefty portion, so come hungry. If you’re hungry and in a hurry, there is even a to-go section that has select favorites packaged up and ready to grab. How’s that for fast food?
When you go to Scallions — not if, when — you have to experience dining on the patio. The Heights is a beautiful area, and this patio is perfect for being able to relax under the shade of a big oak tree. Whether you’re dining alone or with a group, the patio is the place to be.
After a rough morning of meetings, errands and hitting the gym, I need a positivity boost. Every time I walk inside Scallions, I’m greeted with smiling and friendly faces — the positivity boost I’m looking for. How a restaurant staff makes you feel is so important to your dining experience, and I’m always blown away by how incredibly Scallions treats its customers.
The owner, Chip, and his wife, Brandi, bought the restaurant around six years ago, and they are a major presence in the restaurant and experts in making customers feel at home. I see Chip every single time I go in working alongside his employees and smiling the entire time.
“Scallions has been around since 1986, and when we took over around six years ago, we were so excited to have the opportunity to use all fresh ingredients to make good food,” Chip says.
Boy, do they make good food. I’ve always believed that if you’re going to do something, do it to the best of your ability. Chip and Brandi have definitely created a place that has it all: great food, great prices and impeccable customer service.
Visit Scallions’ website to learn more about their great food, or just go ahead and give Chip a visit at the restaurant.
