Summer break has finally arrived, and it’s time for fun and games. But the fun shouldn’t be limited to the kids! This June, everyone can take part in a fun scavenger hunt, raffle and more that will benefit a great cause.
On June 13-15, Pleasant Ridge Town Center will host “The Hunt for WOW,” a scavenger hunt and raffle promotion event. This three-day event will be taking place throughout the shopping center, which is located in West Little Rock, during regular hours (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
Rebecca Nelson, with the Pleasant Ridge Town Center, says the event is a way for people to learn more about what is available at the town center and provide an opportunity for some beginning of summer fun.
“It’s a promotion to remind people to come in and have fun, that we have shops, dining and services. Hopefully, by scattering the events throughout the shopping center, people won’t have just one destination,” she says.
Most importantly, the event is a partnership with Women’s Own Worth (W.O.W.), an organization that is dedicated to empowering women and families who have experienced domestic violence and trauma.
“We are teaming with Women’s Own Worth to have an event. It’s not sale, it’s not a sidewalk sale,” Nelson says. “It’s a promotion, and we named it the “Hunt for WOW”, but we’re also teaming up with W.O.W., so there’s a double meaning.”
Jajuan Archer, the founder of W.O.W., says the organization is proud to partner with Pleasant Ridge Town Center for the event. “We were very honored that Pleasant Ridge Town Center that they wanted to help Women’s Own Worth in any way they could,” she says.
The highlight of the “Hunt for WOW” will be the scavenger hunt, where individuals search for purple “WOW” letters that are hidden in participating stores.
“Everyone will go to the participating stores in the hunt for WOW. There will be black WOW letters in each of the stores, but the search will be for the purple WOW letters,” Archer says When you find the purple letters, take a selfie, and you’ll receive a purple sticker on your card.”
If you find a black letter and are stumped, you can always ask an employee for a tip. Archer says employees will give riddles that will provide a clue to the next WOW location.
There will also be a raffle, and tickets can be purchased at stores at the Pleasant Ridge Town Center. Raffle tickets are only $5, and the prize value is $250 or higher. According to Nelson, there will be at least five prizes. Stores from the shopping center have donated items for the prizes.
In addition, many stores will have their own sales, promotions and discounts, Nelson says.
Purchases made at participating stores will also benefit Women’s Own Worth during the three-day event. Several participating stores are donating a portion of their proceeds from the event to help W.O.W. and its mission, Archer says.
Keeping with W.O.W.’s mission of keeping people physically and mentally strong, there will be several fitness pop-up events on Saturday, June 15. The morning event will be a pump-up workout to get everybody ready for the rest of the day. Later, there will be two classes – a yoga workout and a barre class.
“This is something that a lot of people will want to come and learn about new ways to keep fit,” Archer says. “I’m happy that people are able to experience new types of exercise.”
Having exercise pop-up events like these is a great way to create friendships and form tribes, Archer says. These pop-up events are similar to W.O.W.’s own exercise classes, which Archer encourages individuals to join by visiting the W.O.W. website.
The Hunt for WOW is a major event for both the Pleasant Ridge Town Center and Women’s Own Worth. Both are hoping for a large turnout to benefit a deserving charity and a growing area in West Little Rock.
“Please join us as we kick off the summer at Pleasant Ridge Town Center with three fun filled days of shopping. Win amazing prizes at our W.O.W. scavenger hunt. Learn about Women’s Own Worth and how you can become a volunteer. The funds raised at this event will go directly to help build our first transition home. Come support an organization making a difference in our state,” Archer says. “The Pleasant Ridge Town Center businesses care about our community and we are so very thankful to them and you all for everything you do empower those impacted by violence.
“We appreciate Lou Schickel and Pleasant Ridge Town Center for continuing to support us. They support us year after year. We only have one fundraiser a year, and that’s WOWapalooza. This is our second event for the entire year, so it’s a very big deal that they stepped up to help us,” Archer says.
