It’s no secret of my love for the Christmas holiday. Sure, I like Thanksgiving and birthdays and Arbor Day is a ton of fun (my attempt at satire). But there’s just something about Christmas I find magical. To help celebrate the season we feature holiday decorating ideas with local florist, Tipton & Hurst, a holiday gift guide (25 fabulous gifts that you can win!), along with an extensive holiday catalog, compliments of our hardworking team.
My daughter, Savvy, and I recently joined the National Charity League in Little Rock, which provides service projects that mothers and daughters can do together. Part of our volunteer work is making wreaths, ornaments and sending Christmas cards for Ronald McDonald House and Our House. I love my daughter’s generous spirit that she exemplifies year-round, not just during the giving season.
Speaking of giving, this month we feature a list of Arkansas charities. The needs are great around the state; we hope you are able to give generously — not only of your pocketbook but of your personal time too.
Our food bucket list includes breakfast and brunch stops, and is followed by a feature on cocktails. The drinks are pretty, as well as delicious. And guess what? I’m a culinary genius. Who knew? I recently took a cooking class at the University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College where I was schooled on cinnamon roll making. It was easy and delicious.
Lastly, one of my favorite stories in this month’s issue is about the camping trip where I drag our editor-at-large, Lisa Fischer, to an Arkansas state park. City slicker Fischer had never been camping until now. Thanks to the beautiful scenery of our parks and the ease of camping facilities in the state, this was a wonderful adventure.
I can’t believe in just a few weeks, I’ll have to take down all the gorgeous ornaments from my tree. Is it wrong to want it up year ’round? But since it’s been up since October (yes, you read that right), the Bakers have definitely enjoyed it. It is beautiful.
We hope you enjoy this issue of AY. Drop us a line and tell us about the ways that you love to help others this time of year.
