Today, my family and I set out on what ended up being one of the most truly unique adventures we have ever been on. We set out early this morning for destination Myrtle Beach Safari. Now, we have been to countless zoos and drive through safaris… this is not that!
After arriving and getting our safety briefing, we immediately turned around to a 900 lb liger. (That’s a lion and tiger offspring!) As most of these kinds of adventures go, he is on on side of the glass and we are on the other. After they walk him slowly by, things begin to change. They opened the doors and out we went. We were literally within 5 feet of this MAMMOTH killing machine. We are given a ton of information then we take the opportunity to have their professional photographers take a picture with this giant. Next we walk back and set in some chairs in the shade, and out walks a cheetah with its two handlers. He takes a leisurely stroll by and his tail wags and hits my knee. I am in awe, and horribly afraid I am going to be eaten at the same time.
After this we move on to one of the biggest highlights of the day. We take a seat inside this play pen, and in starts parading tiger cubs, baby jaguars, and wolf pups. Now again I don’t mean they walked by and we looked at them… they walked through our laps, and we were allowed to pet them, and get snuggles with them. My kids thought they were in heaven and now want baby killing machines as pets! This portion of the day lasted just over an hour and I promise, we felt like it was five minutes.
Then we moved on to meet Bubbles. When he made his way in, we happened to be on the end and again the first time we see him, he walks two feet away from us. We are told of his story and how he ended up there. This culminated with each of us being given the opportunity to feed him a carrot and hug his trunk. Finally we made our way end for lunch and got to hold and play with monkeys! At this point I am just in experience overload! I have reverted myself back to a kid and I didn’t want this day to end! There were many more exciting things happening through this experience that you will have to go see and find out for yourself. Which we HIGHLY recommend!
If you are looking for a unique hands on experience unlike anything you have ever seen before, do yourself a favor, and check out Myrtle Beach Safari!
