New month, new bucket list. For March, AY About You is celebrating the history and heritage of Arkansas food with the Legendary Eateries Bucket List. To kick things off, Heather Baker and KARK’s Hunter Hoagland dropped into Doe’s Eat Place in downtown Little Rock.

“Naturally, we had to start at Doe’s, because this place is a legend,” Hoagland says.

“It is. If these walls could talk then they would tell so many stories,” Baker responds.

Heather kicks things off with one of her favorite dishes — and a staple for Doe’s — tamales. And, if you can believe it, Hoagland has never eaten a tamale before. We’d have to say that trying a tamale for the first time at Doe’s is probably the way to do it.

But you can’t go to Doe’s without a little steak. Or a lot, in this case with the 3-pound porterhouse.

“So juicy; so good,” Hoagland says.

“Iconic for Doe’s, and it is amazing,” Baker says.

And it’s not all tamales and t-bones at Doe’s. The Catfish platter is another favorite among the duo, as is the Philly cheesesteak and the fried shrimp.

Of course, Baker and Hoagland never end a segment without dessert. They can’t get enough of the homemade Butterfinger and chocolate cakes.
