Cassava leaves, fried plantains and pepper soup are just a few of the delish dishes you’ll find at Kontiki African Restaurant.
The restaurant was formerly located in Alexander, but owner Christian Domingo made the call to pack up and move it to Little Rock. The grand opening at 3901 S University is tomorrow, Sept. 1!
Most of the dishes featured on the menu are from Sierra Leone and consist of chicken, fish and beef. Did we mention they bring the heat? Domingo says he’s working on finding the right consistency when it comes to spiciness, so everyone can enjoy them.

“My personal favorite dish is the cassava leaves. It’s the one that reminds me the most of Sierra Leone. It has a spinach consistency, but I think it tastes a lot better. It can be cooked with any combination of smoked turkey, beef, chicken and smoked fish,” he says.
Domingo says his goal for the restaurant is simply for it to be successful and stay around for a long time.
“We want it to be a place for everyone to come together, eat and enjoy.  Also, with it being so close to UALR, we want students from Africa to come and have a place that will remind them of home. Somewhere they can get that home-cooking that they can’t get from a college cafeteria.”
