Well, this is an easy Lisa’s Favorite Things. It’s food-related, and it’s my favorite restaurant.
Readers of AY Magazine, you’ve seen the beautiful ads in the magazine about Cache Restaurant but if you haven’t been in a while, you’re in for some treats.
First, there have been dining room and patio renovations, the introduction of a brand-new menu and a new website is forthcoming.
Second, you can see the painstaking work that Executive Chef Payne Harding has poured his culinary life into with the menu changes. You can see it when he plates his latest creations every night or at lunch with the creative and affordable daily specials Cache serves (the daily specials are often $10-$12, and that, my friends, is the best value in town for lunch).
The other elements of this award-winning restaurant include the beautiful and perfect cocktails (my recommendation forthcoming), the complimentary valet parking at dinner, the Sunday brunch that is always a hit, and now you can even have your lunch delivered via the 8-person gas-powered golf cart to any downtown business.
But let’s focus on the new menu. I’ll start by making our friends who are gluten-free or vegan happy. Or both. Harding has introduced some delicious options that are making these diet-restricted diners very happy. The teriyaki-glazed tofu and veggie burgers are big hits for the vegan diners; the steak tartare and the butternut squash soup are perfect for gluten-free diners. Conversely for gluten-eaters, there is a handmade ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and braised short ribs that will make you flip. But the wow factor might come in the newly-introduced bone marrow and salmon gravlax that is oh-so-good.
My favorite part of dining at Cache besides the delicacies? The people-watching, of course! The restaurant is on the corner of President Clinton Avenue and River Market Avenue in a glass, two-story building where you can sit comfortably inside or out and people watch.
I was recently the honoree at a party upstairs at Cache and, trust me, if you host a party there, you will have the don’t-miss event of the year. In fact, it is a perfect venue for rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons or non-profits. Check with Jayni or Courtney at Cache for details.
And finally, belly up to the bar and order a #9 cocktail when you’re there. It’s got all the healthy stuff in it – pomegranate vodka, fresh lemon, simple syrup, Adelaide with a splash of cranberry. It’s my new signature drink. Sorry, appletini, you’ve just been 86’ed by the #9.
