Summer is the time to relax, kick back and enjoy the finer things in life. And one of those finer things includes seafood! If you are looking for the perfect seafood joint, AY About You has your back.

As always, AY Publisher Heather Baker is on the prowl for the best restaurants in Arkansas – and she has her sights set on the best seafood spots this month. Usually, KARK host DJ Williams would be along for the ride, but he is sending in some replacements this month to help him out.

Mandy Noell and Heather Baker

This week, Baker and KARK host Mandy Noell will be checking out a North Little Rock favorite – Lakewood Fish & Seafood.

Noell is definitely prepared to get started with the eating!

Looks good!

“I love seafood. I feel like my entire life has been building to this moment. I cannot wait,” Noell said. “And this is your stomping ground.”

“It is. I’m actually from this area. I’ve been coming to this building my whole life,” Baker said.

Lakewood Fish & Seafood House has had a longtime presence in North Little Rock and also has a location in Austin – Austin Fish & Seafood.

A boiled platter

At Lakewood, you’ll find a massive menu with oysters, crab claws, different varieties of shrimp, crab cakes, soft shell crabs, calamari, alligator bites and more. That’s not even mentioning the crab cake burger, po’boys and other burgers, sandwiches and wraps they offer. It’s no exaggeration to say that Lakewood has something for everybody.

But Courtney Beck is sending something special out to Baker and Noell. She is preparing the boiled platter, which features 1 lb. of crab legs, 1 lb. of Royal Red shrimp, smoked sausage, potatoes, and corn on the cob in Cajun seasoning.

Oysters on the half shell

Having the oysters on the half shell is one of highlights of the Lakewood experience, for Beck. “We get those in every two days. They’re shucked fresh every morning. People come from everywhere for our oysters on the half shell,” she said.

Once all the food is prepared, it’s loaded up on platters and fills up Baker’s and Noell’s table. “Check out this spread. We have literally everything that we could want and more,” Knoll said.

Baker and Noell

Baker immediately starts working on the boiled platter. “These are my new go-tos: the boiled platter. You get a little bit of everything in them. They look like they’re for sharing, but sorry, they’re all for me,” she said.

“It’s fun because a lot of time when you’re on a date night, you cannot go wrong with everything you get. You’ve got shrimp, crab, potatoes, sausage, corn. All of it,” Knoll said.

After the food gets to the table, both Baker and Noell dig in. But what’s the verdict for Lakewood Fish & Seafood? “If you’re looking for a good seafood meal, this is the place to come,” Knoll said.

Check back next week to see where Baker and her mystery guest go next!
