We didn’t have splash pads when I was growing up. The closest thing we had was a garden sprinkler. If you were lucky you might get to visit Wild River Country with friends but chances are if you wanted immediate respite from the heat, then you had to hunt for a nearby creek or find a well-known swimming hole. If neither of those things was an option, then you hopefully had a friend, or a friend of a friend, whose parents owned a swimming pool. Now, of course, communities around the country have realized the popularity of free splash pad areas and have made them available for children to play in, especially on hot summer days.

For Arkansans, there are luckily plenty of fun and unique splash pad parks available around the state and one we’re excited to visit is at the Murphy Arts District in El Dorado where it was announced last weekend that the MAD Playscape splash pad would officially be open for the summer. It’s officially on our kid’s summer to-do list.

A 2-in-1 splash pad and playground, the MAD Playscape splash pad area is open Sunday-Friday from noon to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
