Have you made time for yourself today? While it can be easier said than done sometimes, taking time to care for yourself is essential in maintaining your overall wellness.

This Friday, July 24 is International Self-Care Day which serves as a reminder that every day can be self-care day. Practicing self-care can promote rest and relaxation where you can have a much-needed break from common stressors and anxiety in life.

Lauren English, a licensed professional counselor and business development representative at Pinnacle Pointe Hospital, shares her tips for self-care below.

“I know many of you have heard before while travelling on a plane that you must put your mask on before the person next to you and this applies to everyday life,” English says. “In order for us to live our best lives, we’ve got to put our mask on first and that requires putting some things in our lives that are going to help us to have a routine of self-care every single day.”

  1. Have an Attitude of Gratitude

“Be intentional about thinking about people in your life, [who] you’re grateful for or maybe things that add value to your day.”

  1. Overcoming Challenges and Gaining Insight

“Whether that’s journaling, talking to a friend or going to a counselor when you really need to work through some of the challenges in life, use those same skills to help you.”

  1. Meditate

“Whether that’s going for a walk, practicing deep breaths or listening to music, take some time out of your busy life and put that into your life. It can really help recenter you and help your day go a lot better.”

  1. Exercise and Eating Well

“I know we talk about this all the time, but there are huge mental health benefits to practicing this everyday.”
