FIRST TASTE OF SUCCESS:

My senior year of high school football, I worked really hard on technique, strength and speed, and I made a tremendous improvement. I learned that with hard work I could do almost anything.

WHAT IS A “GOOD MAN?”

Someone who loves unconditionally, seeks to serve others before himself, does the right thing when nobody is looking and lives a strenuous life. A strenuous life, as defined by Theodore Roosevelt, is one that “does not shrink from toil, but lives with a vigorous and positive outlook on life,” in a Colossians 3:23 way: “… as if for the Lord.”

REMEMBER ME FOR:

The Hebrew word “avodah” is used in scripture to describe work, worship and service. The same word is used throughout scripture and implies that they are the same. I hope people will remember me as someone who incorporated all three into the workplace.

ADVICE TO OTHERS:

Focus on attitude. Be engaged in the sacred calling you are pursuing. Be ardent but winsome — making enemies, especially early in your career, will create an uphill battle no matter how right you may be in your position.

HOW HAVE YOUR EXPERIENCES SHAPED YOU:

I grew up in a very middle-income family — the youngest of five kids. Seeing my parents work hard and be devoted to one another helped shape me into who I am today.
