  • The House of Representatives passed an addition to the War Powers Act, requiring the President seek congressional approval before engaging in further hostilities with Iran. The resolution is concurrent, simply requiring passage through both congressional houses without needing a presidential signature. Republicans point to the resolution’s lack of executive approval as proof that it is non-binding, and largely symbolic, raising an unresolved legal question.
  • U.S. job growth in December slowed compared to the previous three months, but the unemployment rate remained steady at 3.5%.
  • NASA honors the first class of astronaut candidates to graduate under the Artemis program. After completing more than two years of training, these candidates are now eligible for spaceflight, including Artemis missions to the Moon and, ultimately, Mars.
