A new initiative is aiming to install new pieces of public art across Arkansas.
OZ Art, the Unexpected and Justkids are partnering to launch ARkanvas, an intitative that will install 12 public art pieces in the state. ARkanvas will bring world-renowned artists to Arkansas, starting in October.
Some of the communities the artists will be visiting include Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fort Smith, Conway, Little Rock, Hot Springs and Pine Bluff.
The artists will be creating site-specific works, such as murals and immersive installations, at these communities. An overarching theme for the art works will be the concept of “Unite,” paying tribute to Arkansas’ outdoor and art experiences. The full list of locations is expected to be announced soon.
OZ Art was established in 2017 by Tom, Olivia and Steuart Walton. The purpose of the organization is to bring art “to everyday life in Arkansas,” according to a news release.
“We wanted to do something to celebrate the arts, support artists and create some excitement in our communities during this incredibly challenging time,” Olivia Walton said in a statement. “We love that murals bring art to everyone, and we hope that these projects will inspire, spark conversation and promote civic unity.”
