A statement from Opera In The Rock describes Madam Butterfly as, “a tragic tale of love, loss, and betrayal set in 1904 in Nagasaki, Japan. Pinkerton, a U.S. naval officer, rents a house on a hill for himself and his soon-to-be bride, the 15-year-old geisha Cio-Cio San, also known as “Butterfly.” Bound to be a brief marriage of convenience for Pinkerton, love and heartbreak ensue for the young geisha.”
Opera In The Rock is the only professional opera company in Arkansas and is a designated Professional Company Member of Opera America.
