A Little Rock home builder takes clients on their personalized home building path—from beginning to end—to their dream home destination.
Building a home from start to finish can be a daunting task with a lot of time and commitment. But with the right team, it can be the most fulfilling experience by creating a real-life dream home through a building process that is both easy and fun without being the least bit overwhelming. And who wouldn’t want that?
For 20 years, homeowners in Little Rock and the surrounding area have trusted Bill Parkinson and the team at Parkinson Building Group through this very process of custom home building with a true “focus on the needs and desires” of the homeowner. With more than 100 home builds complete, the renowned company continues to “showcase top-notch craftsmanship and attention to detail” that is unmatched. The seasoned team of professionals is involved throughout the entire build process as they are on-site each day, managing contractors, keeping homeowners informed of the construction timeline and scheduling walk-throughs at critical points along the way.
Because detail upon detail matters in a new home build, it’s important to know the homebuilding team will listen to your planned vision. The building process involves much planning, and with Parkinson Building Group, visions are not only fulfilled but to the highest standard and with a personalized approach of open communication. Because building a home is more than “just a list of features but a reflection of distinctly different lifestyles and desires,” it’s important to have someone who will listen every step of the way. No two homes are ever the same, and clients always take different paths to reach their final dream home destination. The Parkinson Building Group listens to these goals in order to align expectations with the end goal.
“We are a ‘can-do’ firm and our clients are driving the ship,” owner Bill Parkinson says. “Whatever the team can dream, we do our best to bring to reality.”
The home building process can be complex, but the process with the Parkinson team is simple and straightforward. During the design and build process, the team starts by helping the homeowner establish a budget and selecting a home site that best suits the homeowner’s needs, working to incorporate a homeowner’s unique style into a home’s architectural details. It’s a team effort that inspires further design ideas for the home’s floor plan and interior design.
During this initial planning process, homeowners often envision a home where they can entertain both family and friends, and the family home featured here, located in the Chenal Downs neighborhood in west Little Rock, is a perfect example of this. It’s a family home, a retreat and a place to escape and unwind. “As for all of our custom builds, our goal is to help our clients build their dream, and this home was no exception,” Parkinson says. “This home is a reflection of our client.”
Nestled in the middle of a 10-acre parcel of land among the most mesmerizing spots of nature, the home is tucked down a long winding driveway, invisible from the street. The owners married the home with its natural surroundings by incorporating large amounts of stone on the exterior veneer and by using earth tones to blend the other wall surfaces to the natural color palette of the stone. The final result is breathtaking on both the inside and out.
The homeowners worked with interior designer Mona Thompson with Providence Design of Little Rock to build upon a neutral color palette that fills each room, along with lots of texture and blue as a strong, solid accent hue, almost echoing a reflection of the calming surroundings of nature just outside its doors. In striking contrast, the durable flooring is an oil-rubbed European oak that adds character and a bit of rustic charm. “[This flooring] is one of our new favorites, having used it in several homes over the last three years,” Parkinson says.
Sometimes it’s the little things that really make a home stand out and truly memorable. In this case, small details make a big statement. The Parkinson team incorporated several unique pieces into the home — from accessorizing the vent hood to installing antique European doors that lead into the study. A stained glass window lets its colorful beauty shine behind the master tub, and the master bathroom vanities include lighting beneath the toe kick that turns on with a motion sensor so that when entering the space at night, the room is well-lit.
The Rumford fireplace and beams in the great room are definite eye-catching details as well as the entire study room. “It’s arguably one of the most special rooms in the home as the custom bookcases and fireplace mantel were aged by one of the best to look like they have been there for 100 years,” Parkinson says. “Special care and love went into each piece [in the study] from the bookshelves to the mantle to the view out the window as [the homeowners] sit and enjoy a Cardinals game.” It’s just another example of how the Parkinson team really meets the specific lifestyle needs of a client.
With any project undertaking, relationships are always at the core for Parkinson Building Group. “We had, and have, one of the most enjoyable relationships during a build,” Parkinson says. “It was fun and full of wonderful memories and stories from the 18 months we spent building the home.”
And in the end? “We feel proud as with all of our home projects,” Parkinson says. “We are honored to be a part of it.”
