This is our segment on www.aymag.com where we help you find some things to binge-watch this weekend.
First things first, forgive me for not mentioning some things you should have already watched by this time. The top of that list is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Outstanding, critically acclaimed series on Amazon that wows audiences. It’s not for sensitive ears as the language is bad, but the lead is wonderfully played by Rachel Brosnahan who plays Madge Maisel, a hilarious comedienne in New York City in the 50s. She’s a real trail blazer. Two familiar faces are in the series as well- Tony Shalhoub of Monk fame and Kevin Pollock of well, too many things to list.
Now let’s move on to some other series. Publisher Heather Baker and her husband Joel and my husband Kris love them some Yellowstone. Season two began last week, and the audience of this series was ready. It stars Oscar and Emmy winner Kevin Costner, and my husband likens it to a western Dallas. Corruption, family politics and beautiful humans are involved. It does sound like Dallas the more I read about it.
The second season to Barry on HBO should be on your list. Oh, my. This one is a surprising hit. It stars SNL alum Bill Hader as a Midwestern hitman who wants to leave his past behind once he is assigned to knock off an actor in LA but then decides he loves acting! I love seeing the Fonz, Henry Winkler, as the has been acting coach. This is a dark comedy. Well done, well written. (Truthfully, season two is a little slow, but I am still enjoying it.)
And I took one for the team last weekend. I saw the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston movie, “Murder Mystery,” and it wasn’t great. It has the feel of an old-timey whodunit? but it’s a bit corny. It has received a 45% on Rotten Tomatoes which is a pretty reliable rating.
