Our reel of photos from the past 16 years; from the Pink Tie Guys to breast cancer survivors.
In 2001, AY About You CEO, Vicki Vowell, founded “Runway for a Cause,” a fashion show meets luncheon which featured breast cancer survivors walking the runway while draped in elegant haute couture. The AY event became an immediate success for breast cancer awareness, raising more than $1 million for local organizations in its first 10 years. Since then, Komen Arkansas has taken over the event, now known as “Runway for the Cure,” with AY as the founding sponsor.
Our annual photoshoots of breast cancer survivors, the Pink Tie Guys and the now “Runway for the Cure” event empower and uplift. Each and every year, one of the most discussed topics of conversation at these events is the desire to look good, and feel normal to contrast the feeling of powerlessness that can result from a cancer diagnosis. “So, we get dressed up. We put makeup on. We go all out.” Because, for this fight, anything less just won’t do.
As a woman-led organization, Vowell, Inc., is incredibly humbled for the opportunity to bring awareness to this cause each and every year.
Vowell and AY’s footprint in the fight against breast cancer goes back to 1996, and every year since, our publication has made it a point to devote special issues related to the cause, annually; using our resources to highlight the personal stories of survivors, raise additional awareness and cover, editorially, the relentless research to find a cure.
