AY: What is your name and job title?
EM: Evan Mathews, co-owner of National Custom Hollow Metal and Maple Leaf Awning and Canvas
AY: Where is your hometown?
EM: Little Rock, Ark., but with Yankee roots and Texan experience.
AY: What is your favorite way to spend a Saturday?
EM: That changes with the seasons for me. Late winter: a day or two at the horse races. Early spring: visiting some state parks, summer on the lake, fall tailgating or watching some sports with friends. Winter: holidays with family. Early morning walk, catching up on my reading and trying to cook something new are pretty standard Saturday activities.
AY: If your house was on fire, what is the first thing you would save?
EM: My cell phone only because I feel I am practical and would need that to call the fire department.
AY: What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
EM: It may not be the best advice I ever received but it is the one that comes to mind: New places, new faces!! My older brother has been saying that for years. New places and new faces create new opportunities in peoples’ lives to grow, learn and discover possibilities.
AY: Do you prefer to cook at home or eat out?
EM: I am predominantly a cook-at-home person, but it is always nice to go out and experience one of the many new and classic Little Rock restaurants.
AY: If you could spend a day with any celebrity (living or not) who would it be?
EM: Is Sam Walton a celebrity? If he could come back to life and spend the day with me, I think I would learn a lot of insight from him on family and business. The bonus, I think, would be for Sam, who would get to see his legacy of family, business and philanthropy that he started. I would hope he would buy lunch.
AY: Your favorite vacation destination: beach or mountains?
EM: You can find me at the beach!
AY: Are you a cat person or a dog person?
EM: Dogs, hands down.
AY: Are you a morning person or a night owl?
EM: Sleep? Who needs it.
